Accessing + Testing MPICH/OPENMPI For a True Rookie

• Before you can use MPI you need to access the ib-node servers.

  Connecting to the nodes via terminal

  • If you have a CS account, you can connect to one of the machines by using the command:
    • ssh -l <your ur username> node2x18a.cs.rochester.edu
    • Note:
      • If you don’t know your password, that means you’ve never set it. If so, you can find it at: https://accounts.csug.rochester.edu
      • If you know but can’t remember your password, you will need to email Ian Ward or Dave Costello to have it reset.
    • If you have successfully connected to the node, you should see the following in your terminal:
      • <your ur username>@node2x18a.cs.rochester.edu:
      • Note: If you don’t see this then you are still on your home computer. Close terminal, try again.

• Before you start running your own code, I suggest you make a small tester code to make sure everything is running smoothly. Below, I will help you write it out.

  Testing your access OpenMPI

  • According to Dave, the library should be located at:
    • openmpi: /usr/lib64/openmpi/bin
  • We will now test each library and make sure you have access to it.
